Name?
Rami Hanafi

Age?
26

Hometown?
Tampere, Finland

Website?
Been a project for a long time now…

What was your first setup?

I was just cleaning up some old stuff at my parent’s house and I found this red plastic point and shoot camera that I remember getting from them a long time ago. When I was 16 I got an old manual Minolta when I moved to Syracuse, New York for a year.

What are you using nowadays?
Canon digital, Hasselblad, Contax, Holga and an old Nikon film body with a 35mm lens. I like to shoot both digital and film depending on the situation.

Main influences / sources of inspiration?

The people around me and all the cool photos all over.

If you would be given 1,000 euros to spend on photo equipment, what would you buy?
I’d save it for some good lenses.

Up-and-coming photographer?

Jonathan Bjerk Moller

What, who and where was your first published photograph?

The first that I remember was a portrait of my friend Kimmo Tuhola shot in Italy. It was published in Slammer magazine.

What's the most annoying part of your job, if there is such part?
I don’t think there is any…other than carrying the heavy camera gear around.

Were you trained in photography or was it just a case of trial and error? In case of any school, do you recommend it?
I’m studying photojournalism in the University of Tampere. I also studied in Danish school of journalism for one semester. I think school can give you a lot. Still, I’ve always felt better being out there shooting rather than sitting in school.

Any handy hints for a rookie photographer?
I think best part of this job is to be out there shooting. And I think that’s also best way to learn. So don’t save on your film expenses.
